Some of you might recall around Christmas I was embarking on a garage organization project. While I'm not totally finished, I think I have the major components in place and most of the work completed. I plan to replace the single bulb garage light with a 3-bulb LED. The fluorescent over the bench helps, but it's not enough. I don't have before shots to compare with, but rest assured it was a friggin disaster.
The work table is homemade, using wall studs. I figure it could support the weight of a fully loaded '74 Range Rover. It's stout. Ugly, but stout. The top surface is covered with aluminum sheet. (I am in no way a carpenter)
Power tools go on the shelf below the main work area.
I installed two Wall Control stainless pegboards for every day hand tools.
I also got a small parts box for all of my screws, nails, bolts, nuts, etc. Super handy. Still need to label everything.
The Gladiator box holds all of the nastiest, greasiest auto specific tools and gear. The Craftsman box above holds auto specific hand tools.
The locker is anything hazardous like paint, chemicals, fluids, etc.
The carts next to the locker (with the " !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! " USGP sticker) are basically anything electrical. Auto specific in the top, household beneath.
The rack next to that, on wheels, is a mobile cleaning and detailing cart. I need to get the power supply fully rigged, but it'll do until spring when I really get into detailing away the winter sludge.
I also moved three of my Gladiator rails next to the locker are for any auto specific bits, like air compressor fittings, electrical connectors, etc.
The shelf up top is home to household supplies like caulk, sealer, cleaner, etc.
The other side of the garage is just plain utility shelving for all of our Costco supplies. Nothing to see there, really. I do plan to build a better mousetrap for our recycling bins though. Any ideas?
Total, I spent about $400 and put in two weekends (not all day, of course). Absolutely worth it.
The GT40 posters I got in England, by the way. The Scottish St. Andrews flag too.

With an Alfa Romeo, I suspect the garage won't stay that tidy for long.

You're doing a lot better than me. I just tend to install shelves and shove whatever I need to on them when the current ones fill up. The beginning of a new project is always spending an hour rummaging around finding the tools and parts I need...I really need to do an actual organization project at some point......
Here's how it sits today minus some additional shelves I put in to the right of the breaker box. The left wall is also shelves and more tires... Not shown on the left is my workbench which is covered in camping stuff and an old broken microwave right now.....

I live in apartment with no garage...
In the opposite corner is my stock muffler, jack, jack stands, and one of a few tool kits.

Looks good. And a good thing you did not put anything in front of the electrical box. I had my 5 foot tall tool box in front of the panel. I just figured I can roll the box out of the way if I need to get to it. When the building inspector came to inspect my work on reinforcing the trusses for the solar array on the roof, he gave me hell. Apparently the code says you must have unobstructed access to the breaker box.

I just spent the last weekend completely organizing my garage and its soo nice being able to find what I need when I need it. Most of my tools are in the big grey toolbox then the jack, jackstands, welder, engine hoise, engine stand, etc. in the back corner and drill press, bench grinder, and chop saw on the left workbenches. New parts or in progress projects below those and old parts on the shelf below the new parts.
It used to be really poorly lit (1 or 2 dim bulbs), but I added the bigass florescent light fixture and several of those clamp on flood lights.

I think I want to go with LEDs simply because we often flick the light on and off quickly when we get dog food, something form the freezer, toilet paper, etc. Really hard on fluorescent bulbs. Since LEDs draw about a third the power of comparative incandescent bulbs, I figure I could safely replace the current fixture with a 3-bulb fixture, which in conjunction with the workbench light SHOULD be enough. If not I can get some cheapo auxiliary work lights on stands from Harbor Freight.

Yeah, I just had to channel my inner James May, forfeit a couple of weekends working on the car, and make it happen. The clutter was really starting to stress out my wife, who's a real neat/order freak, and turning her against the car.
The best outcome wasn't so much that everything was put away, but that I came up with a system for organizing the tools to keep things separated. Now I always know where the torque wrench is, where the drill bits go, and where the allen wrenches go. Even if they're not totally sorted, at least they have a home.
I also took all of the spare/redundant tools and made three small tool kits - one for the Alfa, one for the lawn equipment shed, and one for the house.

Did you paint it yourself? Looks great!
Still trying to decide on engine mods. Probably going to send the head off for a port/polish new valves with 5 angle on intake and 3 on exhaust. Mild cam, new lash pads and high compression pistons.

No, I just stripped to bare metal, pickled, and shipped it to the suburbs for rust repair and paint. Still, doing all that heavy lifting saved me at least 3 grand. I even tried welding in new patch panels but my skills were far too rusty (har har) for that wickedly thin sheet metal. I'm slowly replacing the shot interior components and seals. mechanically it's sound, although I do want to finish replacing all of the bushings at the back of the car and maybe swap in this spare transaxle I have laying around. Otherwise I just don't have the time or money to really go nuts (SZ suspension, supercharging etc).
